Integrated Scar Work Therapy

Scars can cause restricted movement, pain and discomfort.
Are you struggling with a C-section scar or hysterectomy scar that is causing you problems? Or perhaps you are concerned about abdominal adhesions caused by endometriosis or pelvic inflammatory disease?
Massage can help to break down scar tissue and adhesions - releasing stuck tissue and freeing up movement.
Most problematic scars have similar characteristics - the skin is tight, hard with bands of fibres below the surface. They are often non pliable and if they cross a joint may cause a limited range of motion in the joint.
Other negative impacts are:
Nerve impingement
Pain
Numbness
Poor postural alignment
Muscle atrophy/wastage
Limited range of motion & an increased risk of injury
*
It doesn't matter if you have had your scar for some years - most scars have a level of stuck-ness which can be helped by massage.

Abdominal Adhesions

The deeper abdominal adhesions that you cannot feel or see can restrict movement which can  cause nagging feelings of discomfort. Abdominal adhesions can also occur from previous surgical treatments, disease or infections. These scars can impact upon reproductive health by affecting ovaries, uterus and intestines and they can indirectly affect the lungs/breathing, liver and heart.

C - Section Scar and Hysterectomy Scar

A caesarean section incision goes through many layers, the abdominals, skin, muscles and the uterine wall. reduces the integrity of the abdominal wall and the body,. Lower back pain, hip pain or restricted movement. The deeper scar layers can cause problems, digestive issues, period pains fibroids and menstrual bleeding due to the scarring of the uterus,

Other scars

Breast Scar
Perineal Scar
(Self massage)
It is also important to do pelvic floor exercises.

I work with an integrated approach to working with your scar - I use massage techniques that have been shown to help reduce tightness and bring more blood to the area - softening and releasing your scar.
This specialised massage uses soft tissue release, Instrument assisted massage, superficial and deep abdominal massage, Stretches, castor oil packs and Kinesio-taping for post operative oedema.
